Great initiatives don't require instructions and directives, all it needs is a reason, a trigger, a motive and a goal to achieve supported by inner zeal of living your desires. What better a cause we can find then to get a chance to stay connected to our roots of education, our Friends and always remember of age of adolescence.

Even after walking miles today's if we really see we haven't even achieved an iota but all we can cheer for is the journey we have undertaken till date. For you to just have a glimpse of the path walked right from where it started with few of the mails exchanged just to help you gauge the amount of effort and energy put into the initiate by us

It all began with this Letter

 Hi guys,

Hope you all in best of health and spirits. Also, I hope that you are making great progress on personal and professionals fronts.

Let me begin this email with couple of questions.

1) Do you still miss those four fantastic and blissful years in which we use to share our joy and sorrows with our friends?

2) With how many friends we are still in touch with?

3) Have we lost all the sweet memories of GIT?

4) In which year did we finish our graduation in GIT?

5) Are we so much occupied with the responsibility of earning our basic bread and butter that we can't spare couple of hours each year to think for GIT which taught us how to stabilize ourselves and face the challenges of outer world?

If these questions frequently pops up in your mind, then proceed forward to second part of this email otherwise it is strictly not meant for you.

Again, if these questions came to your mind then what was your contribution to fill up the vacuum created by the absence of GIT? Have you got any idea to recollect those days?

These questions may sound foolish to some people and suddenly they will think "What happened to Abhinav? Why he is asking these questions after two years?" Well, all my batch mates tried their level best to reunite the people of GIT but I am sorry it all went in vein. I am again trying to follow their steps to begin the process.

Let me share one experience with you people. I went to GIT this year in early January like I use to do in each visit of India. I was thrilled to meet the old staff and went to each and every corner of GIT to refresh the fading memories. Although, my favorite area was "GIT CANTEEN" and I was there for almost one hour. In the process of all this, I came across in contact with couple of juniors along with newly hired faculty members. They came up with an idea that "WHY DON'T WE FORM GIT ALUMNI?" My first reaction was Ahh...forget it....this time around also there will be some crap and shit by the committee members of GIT and they won't support this concept. While I was discouraging my enthusiastic juniors, an old faculty member came to me and said "BATCH OF 2006 WAS THE BEST BATCH OF GIT. EACH GUY OF THAT BATCH WAS FORCE WITHIN HIMSELF." Those words kept on playing on my mind for several days. I gave them couple of ideas but later on came to know that just because there was some educational team visiting GIT that's why they created this GIT alumni which is good for nothing. My heart broke and suddenly, I thought an opportunity is lost to do something for GIT.

But again couple of days later I did talk to couple of my GIT mates based in US, UK, Australia and India. I touched the base with them by discussing my idea of recollecting all the GITIANS and helping each other to fight for existence in this competitive world. I want the world to feel our presence. I know that I am dreaming something very big but  at the same time, I firmly believe if you guys are with me then we can certainly fight against all odds.

I guess all of you remember that the "2006 Batch" was the crown of GIT or rather I should say that it still is the crown of GIT.  Each and every student was having leadership quality within himself with a stable head on his shoulders. Just recall those days when we were planning to organize our first function in GIT....yeah you guys are right...."TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATION". The management said NO for the function but still we managed by collecting some funds. I guess this is the time to show them that we can go and form Alumni without the support of management.

Contributions  and suggestions which can be helpful in achieving above goal:

1) Collect the email ids and contact numbers of all the passed out GITIANS starting from 2006-2008 batches. This should be done in following manner. 2006 batch members would contact 2007 batch mates and 2007 Gitians should be given a responsibility of collecting 2008 batch. In same way the cycle will continue in the successive years. Suddenly after couple of months we will realize that we made a force of Gitains.

2) Try to form closely knit network and help each other in best possible way.

3) In each country, zonal heads can be made which should report to central in charge. Again, to avoid any conflicts we will share the responsibility and all the post would be changed in every 6 months.

4) Website should be maintained with a team of people who can make sure that the contacts of all the Gitains are stored with their updated addresses.

5) There will an annual get together event in which all the GITians are invited unlike our present alumni of GIT. Arrangements and expenses would be beared collectively like we use to do in our college days.

Any other suggestions are most welcomed. Remember, we are not doing it for us....we are doing it for GIT. Come'on guys Hit the central stage.....its time to rock the Gitian management and let them dance on our tune. Show them that 2006 batch is living upto the expectations.

Both Git and ourselves started the journey from same point and hence, its our moral responsibilty to carry GIT with our personal progress.

Please, all those who see this as an opportunity, reply in this thread and come up with an idea of how to do it. Also, I don't have the email ids of all my batch-mates so keep on forwarding this email.

Cheers!

Letter to the Management

 Dear all honorable managing GIT,

It was the summer of 2006, when the first batch of GIT walked out of the boundaries of the college into the corporate arena, a moment to be remembered and cherished for a lifetime by each and every member of the GIT family.

Almost VI semesters have been written by students after the first batch moved out and each and every individual who moved out of the college is still nostalgic about this place - a universe in itself called Global Institute of Technology.

The reminiscence and subsequently derived enthusiasm triggered a thought of staying connected and which led to the evolution of a prudent thought of creating an Alumni Association - GITA (Global Institute of Technology Alumni).

GITA(GIT Alumni) will bring the entire GIT Family together to support the College in the realization of its vision and mission and to encourage an active involvement in the rich community life of GIT through social, intellectual and educational activities. Graduates, current and former staff and those who have enjoyed a close association with College would independently lay claim to a lifelong relationship with GIT, while uniting to form a fellowship of knowledge.

The sole intend of bringing GITA into existence are -

  • Foster lifelong relationships with the global existing GIT community.
  • Enhance the reputation of GIT across the globe.
  • Provide opportunities for graduates to network socially and professionally with other alumni both working and studying in India or abroad.
  • Promote and recognize the achievements of the college and its graduates within GIT and amongst the community.
  • Create an environment to support the continuing involvement of alumni in the development of GIT.
  • Providing a strong platform for the budding ones in the form of career counseling, recommendations for both Jobs and Higher education by the established alumnus, helping them climb up the ladder of life.
  • And Stay connected forever to our glorious past.

Aligning itself to GIT Mission and Vision, GITA would act as a strong catalyst which would mark GIT's existence as a Community and not just as an Institute.

What has been Achieved

As far as the ultimate goal is concerned, the first leap ahead would be the response of this mail fro m your end. But before making this step a lot has been done to make this step very firm and profound.

Over a period of few months we have been able to unite over 250 Alumnus over net and the figure growing day by day.

Launch of the GITA website which was a result of the endeavor by the Alumnus to stay connected (www.gitaa.tk). The website has been created by Vaibhav Mishra (2008 batch) and it has worked to fire the passion inside.

We won’t harness and elaborate on this section as lot and lot more needs to be done. What has been done so far is just to put the pieces together, they all still remain fragmented and still we are looking for the joining force.

The Road Ahead

We would have been more than mesmerized if all this was done under the roof of GIT.

Though being a part of GIT family even we stand responsible for establishing GITA. Realizing the same we have bought it to how it stands today.

But in order to take this step forward and establish a platform which is an integral part of GIT, we would require some support from GIT management to take up the process from here.

This shall include –

  • Setting up a registered association which is integral part of GIT.
  • An Alumni department at GIT managing alumni database and activities.
  • Setting up Alumni Chapters both domestic and international.
  • Hosting of Alumni website linked to GIT official website.< /li>
  • And last but not the least, your wishes and affection to make it a grand success.

Though we would never be able to repay all the love we have received at GIT but we would love to get the opportunity to serve as Alumnus and take GIT to heights, it has never been.

Trust that we won’t be denied of being able to write the prolog of what will last forever in interest of all.

Thanks and Regards

Welcome All

Hi All,

A warm welcome to all who have been added to this thread for the first time.

Kindly go through the below posts (at least last 4-5) to know what all’s going on before proceeding further.
And if still unclarified, don’t hesitate mailing me any time.
As of now you all are expected to go through the attached pdf and post your feedback.
Use the below mentioned link to update your contact details.
Do remember to rotate the below link to your batch mates, so that even they can be a part of this activity.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pF2E2KJPnzKAAW4KNnpNrLg&t=&guest

There is a nice update for all
The total count on the excel sheet has reached 149.
Nice activity for the last week.

Prateek G: Quite some feedbacks have come. I think we can proceed with the discussion on these grounds.

And of course the only thing I felt about the presentation is -

The focus should be more on proving that there is a desperate need for GIT Alumni.
Comparison is OK but doesn’t serve the purpose fully. Something seems like missing.
Its something like saying
“What all GIT needs to become a world class premiere institute, a trendsetter for all of its kind? (as they mention as GIT mission on GIT website)”
sounds much better than saying
“Best and the Rest”/”The difference between ‘I’ and ‘G’.
Or you can say
“The gap between GIT and the aspirations/ the league GIT should be trying to enter”
Telling them what all’s happening around is perfectly fine and required as well but there can be a better way.
Probably you can slightly reduce on the comparison and include some more stuff focusing the need.

You can even use whatever Anushree had shared to include more stuff proving the desperacy.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks

Prateek,

Thanks mate for giving us start. The spark which has been provided by you would definitely act as a guiding light towards this noble cause.

There are certain points which I want to point out before we jump on to some conclusions. I am planning that all of us should collect some materiel, modify it and then make a presentation on it. The presentation should contain some voice (in the background) which should make the presentation self explanatory.

If all of you agree with me, then I need couple of names who think that their voice is suited for this kind of job. We will pass the presentation to that along with the matter for background.

Waiting in anticipation to get your reviews on this.

Thanks,
Abhinav.

Great Work

Gr8 work Prateek boss and the presentation is really good and clears all the Alumni task and responsibilities and this will be the strong roof for all the GITians to remain connected.

Abhinav boss's concept of adding voice in the background is also a good idea.

The presentation needs to be reviewed once again for some modifications.

>Prateek boss, I'll forward u the modifications to you by tomorrow

> 2008 Batch friends : Hey friends we all have to put a little efforts and call up the left friends and ask them to updte the spreadsheet and give their precious suggestions for the threads. Come on frends, Lets ROCK ON

Wat do u think?

Dont Worry

Hi Prateek

"i thnk dat i hav over committed myself for d cause"

Now what does that mean?............Its our initiative and we need to work it out……….…make it happen whatsoever it takes.
We are the ones who are responsible for our success of failure.

Dude, everybody agrees that you have put efforts. You didn't receive expected response in time.
I tried hard for the head count. We're still 100 ought……much below expectations.
Some more tried to put in their ideas in one or the other way but didn't get expected response.

In any sense would it be right to say that "We were over committed but rest din't do much. Let them do now or (Forget it / I am not IN till they respond)"????????
If we pull our legs back expecting others to respond, it would be the most stupid thing to do, there's nobody who can sail us to the shore. Even you know that.

So better just keep sowing………..we'll reap later.
And mind it, its not personal. Each of us needs to understand this.

I am quite screwed up in office………you'll get your first response by tomorrow.

Thanks and Regards

Nice Work

Hey Prateek,

I appreciate your hard work and strong gesture to take the responsibility of acting as a catalyst in the process of forming GIT Alumni. We need more people like you.

We understand that we are running our of time but still man we should wait for sometime to get the acknowledgments from at least  20 people so that we can move forward. We are working as a team and so we need to win others confidence too.

Kindly give them some more time to review it and give their suggestions. Hope you took my words in right sense.

Hey Mates,

We should learn something out of Prateek's book. We need to lift ourselves up to make up for our dream. I discussed on phone last week with couple of friends and we have some plans coming up in later half. So, Kindly spare some time to give your reviews because your final words matters to us a lot.

Thanks,
Abhinav.

Hi All

Hi All,

Excellent work Prateek...... The presentation looks to be quite impressive........

But from my personal prospective, i feel like having few changes in it..........

a) Learning from neighbourhood Slide 11-12 (Not Required)

What i personally feel is we are not here to copy anyone. What we want GIT management to understand is "Our Motto" rather them telling about others. We need to focus on "Our Vision" and "Our Mission".

b) Vision and Mission – The difference between the best and the rest Under that Slide 18 - No Use
Why are we talking about Alumni Council Members– IIM Ahmedabad. It's true that when w 'll have our own alumni, many of our friends will be at great heights in Professional fronts.

c) The difference between the best and the rest
We have talked about

IIT Delhi
IIT Kharagpur
IIMA
IIMB
IIMC

the best in the present time. But what about the rest ???? We need to tell to the Management that Yes we are there in the Category of "REST" and what we want from your side is "SUPPORT" that's all. Rest of the things we are ready to take.

Points which we need to focus on:

From our end and from your end, what all are the benefits.

What YOU can achieve and what WE can achieve.

Some thing like :

* You CAN…have access to exclusive career opportunities for the upcoming students.

* You CAN…meet and connect with great past and present industry leaders.

* We CAN…attend professional development events at the time of our meet by sharing each
  other experiences.

* We CAN…meet and connect with other outstanding past students.

  and many more.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All we goona have is a Network in the form of Alumni. What we can get via Network is all we need to Focus on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I' ll surely come up with few more things as i have many things on which we can have a thought before coming onto the final conclusion.

Again i' ll like to thank Prateek for taking the initiative and coming up with his thoughts, Idea and passion for alumni in the form of a wonderful presentation.

And lastly i like to focus on what Pranay said " Mind it, its not personal. Each of us needs to understand this." This carry a lot of meaning..................

Hi Gang

I agree with my friends who had taken the initiatives.
We must plan sometimes during next Diwali break to meet togther.
I am suggesting that time as we all can make plans in advance for the get togther.

Please do suggest any suitable dates if anybody is having in his/her mind.
I hope we will meet in the same ground where we had organised the first function of "GIT- Teacher's Day".

Hola Folks

First of all i would like to thank Abhinav for taking this initiative. Friends i really feel that this time we should take it seriously as a challenge. We desperately need a platform for us to share our memories and help each other.

This is time to come forward and make it happen so lets do it. Reply to this email thread with your ideas and also forward it to other Gitians.
