Hello everyone
This is for all those who are planning to go for MS.
As most of the MS aspirants may be looking for universities in US / Oz / NZ / UK and other
English countries, its time to take a look at another option !
Welcome to Japan !!!
but first, perhaps not everyone knows me, a small introduction
"hi, I am Abhishek, from GIT 2006 batch, ECE."
Lately, i was getting queries from juniors about "MS from japan", so i thought to inform
everyone who is interested in doing MS, abt the admission procedure etc for Japanese univ.
(well, its a kind of late for Oct Entrance, still chk the links at the end of the mail, if some Univ still Open)
Japan has many of the world's finest universities, find them here :
http://www.topuniversities.
and no need to tell about the technology advancements in japan.
So, if u have started thinking for japan as an option, here is the keyword for you.
"MEXT scholarship" ... its a scholarship provided by Japanese government mainly for foreign students.
its a super kool scholarship, which covers [ round trip India-Japan airfare + tution fees + admission fee +
and a monthly stipend of around 155k yen/month == 70-80k Rs/month. ] So u have nothing to spend :)
This money is totally enough for an easy life here, and many Indian students even save some money from
the scholarship and send it back home and also manage to get a trip to India once a year. :)
As japan is not a popular destination among Indian students, they generally don't know about this scholarship.
so the competition to get the scholarship goes down itself :)
The Fees :
Japanese universities have a standard fee structure. Approx same for all the major Universities.
Aplication fee : 30,000 yen (or 10,000 yen)
Admission fee : 2,82,000 yen
Yearly Tution fee : 5,35,800 yen
i.e. a total of 13,83,600 yen == 6,68,000 Rs for complete MS.
a considerable less amount if compared with the US universities !!!
(though private Jap Univ (like KEIO Univ ) adds much more amount, so i suggest only go for Govt Univ )
The procedure :
There are two ways to get in a Japanese University.
university itself for 6 months/1 year (all expenses paid by the scholarship) as most of the universities
offer course in japanese only. Then u have to appear for the enterance examination (in English), but most
(Some Universities which offer courses in English, may not require you to first learn japanese)
B. Some Universities take admission only on the document bases, so if you have a sound academic
record and a thik thak score in GREs Quantitaive section only, you may not require any entance test.
(Like KEIO Univ or sometimes )
course in English like Tokyo Institute of Technology's "International graduate Program" or University of Tokyo's University's MEM program
most of the Universities require you to initially contact a professor (by sending ur resume etc), and get his approval letter,
which will be send to the Univ admission office.
NO GRE Score
Most Universities do not require GRE score, and even if they ask it, its just the quanititative section which counts, not the English section.
so those who couldn't score gud in GRE because of English Vocab etc, they can still have gud chance in Japanese Universities
Although you have to submit the TOEFL Score, which also does not require very high marks, its just to know that you u r not totally dumb at english :D

MEXT schloarship, and its procedure.)
